It can be tough to stick to an exercise routine. Often, it involves a change of lifestyle, and it can be frustrating when you don’t start seeing or feeling results immediately. All too often, it’s easier to come up with an excuse not to exercise, but these tips can help you stick to your new routine!
Find something you enjoy
Firstly, it will be a lot easier to stick to your routine if it’s something you look forward to each day! Find an exercise you actually want to do, whether this is a team sport, in the gym, or something more extreme. Turn it into more than a routine, and think of it more like a hobby or passion. You’ll soon find it easier to fit it into your day!
Switch it up
Even if you do find an exercise you love, switch it up occasionally. This way, you won’t get bored of your routine. Try something totally different to your regular workout, whether this is a fitness class, a new machine at the gym, or something totally different such as skiing or ice skating!
If you’re struggling to stick to your routine, try bringing a friend along. Firstly, they can offer moral support when you’re finding it tough. But, exercising with a friend can make it more fun! Try swapping your coffee dates for a session in the gym or a run with a friend, or even a group of you. Likewise, you could join a club for your favourite sport, or join in with gym classes to make friends who enjoy the same exercise routine as you.
Don’t try to do it all at once
When you’re new to an exercise routine, it can be tempting to try to do everything at once. However, this isn’t a good idea as it could lead to injury- making it even harder to stick to your routine! Instead, build up to your goals slowly. You could try following an exercise plan, or setting your own goals so you’re more motivated to reach them.
Similarly, make sure you keep track of when you’ve exercised and what you did. Then, you can look back on this record to see how far you’ve come, to motivate you even more in the future!
Finding the right exercise routine that you want to stick to is the key. Once you’ve done all of this, the rest should slot into place and you’ll find it easier to make exercise part of your life. Most importantly, remember to be proud of what you have achieved and the fitness goals you have reached, as that is the aim of any exercise routine!
